‘Nyumbani’ means ‘home’ in Swahili, and the brief from these clients was to create their home as a warm place to welcome guests and share meals. With this in mind,the house was designed around the kitchen and entertaining areas, taking advantage of a northern aspect for living areas and outdoor entertaining area. The open pergola extension was designed to capture the sun in winter months. The brief was to design a country Hamptons style home with the main emphasis on the entertaining areas of the home.
